ANBC Hall of Fame, Breeders Excellence Division Induction: 2004
A revered figure within the Australian budgerigar community, Kelwyn Kakoschke is known for his deep-rooted passion, breeding excellence, and long-standing service to the fancy. Representing South Australia, Kelwyn entered the ANBC Hall of Fame at its inception in 2004, having achieved 12 National Class wins as an individual exhibitor prior to 1994. His birds, renowned for their strength, style, set the benchmark for many years. In 1986, Kelwyn made an indelible mark at the Budgerigar National Titles by taking out 5 of the 15 classes, winning Opaline, Lacewing, Fallow, Dominant Pied, and Red Eyed, an incredible feat from 15 possible classes!
Kelwyn went on to form the highly successful Kakoschke & Rice partnership, marking a new chapter in his exhibition career. The partnership became one of the most respected in the country, producing top-quality birds and securing further national accolades and entering the Hall of Fame. Despite the success of the partnership, Kelwyn’s legacy as a solo exhibitor remained firmly intact.
In 2023, Kelwyn returned to the show bench under his own name, reigniting his individual exhibition journey. With this return came his 13th class win at the ANBC National Titles—adding to an already exceptional career. Notably, Kelwyn is the only person in ANBC history to be inducted into the Hall of Fame Breeders Excellence Division both as an individual and as part of a partnership—an extraordinary and rare achievement.
