The Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC) stands as the premier organisation overseeing the breeding, exhibition, and overall promotion of budgerigars in Australia. As the authoritative body in the field, the ANBC unites enthusiasts, breeders, and clubs through the States and Zones. It fosters a thriving community dedicated to the welfare and enhancement of these vibrant birds. The council establishes rigorous standards for breeding and exhibition, ensuring the highest quality and uniformity in budgerigar shows and competitions. Through education, research, and advocacy, the ANBC plays a pivotal role in advancing knowledge, best practices, and the appreciation of budgerigars. It solidifies its position as the peak body for the Australian budgerigar community.
More About the ANBC & It’s Functions
The ANBC is an incorporated body under the laws of the Australian Capital Territory. Its membership comprises seven-(7) state or zone-based budgerigar organisations. The ANBC’s primary function is to annually hold the Trill™ Expert ANBC National Titles. Additionally, it facilitates and coordinates policies for adoption of its member organisations. It enables its member bodies to coordinate cooperative actions on matters on which such bodies agree. This includes show rules, judging and standard, and policies which are of common interest to its member bodies. The ANBC also represents Australian Budgerigar breeders’ interests at international bodies concerning Budgerigars or matters pertaining to international trade in birds, welfare and wellbeing.

As we gear up for the 50th National Show, the SQBBA National Show Committee is excited to share some major developments that will make the 2026 Nationals a truly unmissable weekend for all budgerigar enthusiasts!
🌍 International Guest Confirmed: Ali Bouresli!
We’re thrilled to announce that Ali Bouresli from Kuwait has been invited to attend the 2026 Nationals! This is a huge milestone for the Australian budgerigar community and will bring a wealth of international experience and knowledge to our event. Ali is one of the world’s leading budgerigar figures.
Livestream Commentary
Ali will also join the judging livestream, offering expert insights during the event.
You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to chat birds with Ali throughout the weekend – a rare chance to learn from a global leader in the hobby!
