Nigel Tonkin

Induction into the A.N.B.C. Inc. HALL OF FAME HONOUR ROLL FOR SERVICES TO THE A.N.B.C. Inc.

Nigel Tonkin

This honour is reserved for those whose contribution cannot be measured in years alone, but in decades of steady dedication — countless hours given quietly and generously to strengthen the budgerigar hobby, both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Nigel Tonkin’s journey began in the 1980s, and from those early days he has been fully immersed in his Zone and in the people who make this hobby what it is. Over time, his involvement grew from the local level to the broader national stage. He was appointed to the South Australian Zone Judging Panel in the late 1980s, and in 1995 earned appointment to the National Judging Panel — a reflection of the respect he had already built through knowledge, fairness, and commitment to The Standard.

Nigel has been invited to judge at four A.N.B.C. National Competitions around Australia at the time of writing and has proudly represented the A.N.B.C. Inc. overseas in England and Europe. He has also served the fancy at the highest level as a two-time A.N.B.C. President, giving his time and guidance during important moments in the organisation’s history.

In his home zone of South Australia, his service has been just as enduring. For more than two decades he has been a cornerstone of his Zone’s management committee, including holding the roles of Secretary and Ring Registrar for the B.C.S.A. He has contributed to constitutional matters both within his Zone and nationally, and has been a valued and prominent member of National Colour & Standards committee and the Judges Panel. Across the years, he has also been a committed organiser and host of the National competition — the kind of work that often happens behind the scenes, but without which the big moments simply don’t happen.

Nigel has represented his Zone faithfully as a B.C.S.A. Delegate at the A.N.B.C. Inc. Annual Meeting, and remains a strong supporter of all activities that enhance and celebrate the budgerigar in his home State of South Australia.

With gratitude for a lifetime of service, leadership, and devotion to the fancy, Mr. Nigel Tonkin is a most worthy inductee into the A.N.B.C. Inc. Hall of Fame Honour Roll Division, recognised for his outstanding services to the A.N.B.C. Inc.
