Budgerigar Council of Tasmania (BCT)

The Budgerigar Council of Tasmania (BCT) is the governing body responsible for overseeing and promoting the budgerigar hobby within Tasmania. Established to support breeders, exhibitors, and enthusiasts across the state, the BCT plays a key role in maintaining high standards for breeding and exhibition. The council organizes state shows, competitions, and educational events, ensuring that Tasmanian breeders are well-represented in both regional and national arenas. By offering guidance and resources, the BCT helps to foster the development of budgerigar breeding while promoting ethical care practices and the health of the birds.

Geographically, the BCT serves the entire island of Tasmania, supporting its local clubs and providing them with a platform to collaborate and engage with the broader budgerigar community. The council operates under the standards set by the Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC), ensuring that Tasmanian birds and breeders are aligned with national guidelines. Additionally, the BCT organizes pre-selection events for the ANBC Championship Show, giving local breeders the opportunity to showcase their best birds on the national stage. The BCT is dedicated to growing the hobby and ensuring its sustainability in Tasmania by encouraging new breeders and supporting existing members.
