Western Australian Budgerigar Council (WABC)

The Western Australian Budgerigar Council (WABC), established in 1989, is the central administrative body for budgerigar clubs across Western Australia. The WABC coordinates and supports a network of affiliated clubs, promoting the breeding, exhibition, and welfare of budgerigars in the state. The council plays a key role in organizing major events, including regional and state competitions, and has hosted several Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC) Championship Shows, with notable events held in Perth, Fremantle, Busselton, and Mandurah. The WABC also oversees the accreditation of judges, ensuring the highest standards in exhibitions, and provides vital resources for clubs and breeders across the region.

Geographically, the WABC covers the entire state of Western Australia, with a diverse range of affiliated clubs in both metropolitan and regional areas. Over the years, the council has fostered collaboration between these clubs, enabling a unified approach to advancing the budgerigar hobby. While the WABC serves as an administrative body, facilitating state affairs such as issuing rings and coordinating pre-selection for national shows, it allows individual clubs to operate independently, ensuring equal input from all affiliated groups. The council’s long-standing commitment to the budgerigar community has helped maintain the health and growth of the hobby in Western Australia.
