1990 to 1999

Between 1990 to 1999, National Shows were held across the country, showcasing excellence in breeding and exhibition. The decade began in 1990 at La Trobe University, Victoria, setting the tone for a strong competitive era. In 1991, the show moved to Whitlam Centre, NSW, followed by the stunning Ocean Blue Resort in Queensland in 1992, offering a coastal backdrop for the event.

1993 saw breeders gather in Glenelg, South Australia, continuing the tradition of rotating host states. The show travelled west in 1994 to Western Australia, highlighting the depth of breeding quality across the country. In 1995, Launceston, Tasmania welcomed the nation’s best birds, followed by a return to Queensland in 1996, this time to Cairns, bringing the event to tropical Far North Queensland.

The Nationals returned to Melbourne, VIC in 1997, before shifting back to Bankstown, NSW in 1998. The decade concluded on a high in 1999 at the Gold Coast, QLD, reinforcing Queensland’s strong presence in the exhibition scene.

This era was marked by fierce competition, the rise of future Hall of Famers, and growing public interest, solidifying the ANBC Nationals as a calendar highlight for budgerigar fanciers Australia-wide.
