2000 to 2009

ANBC Show Overview: 2000–2009

The first decade of the new millennium marked a vibrant and memorable era for the Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC) Show. Each year from 2000 to 2009, the show was hosted across diverse Australian locations, offering fanciers a rich mix of climates, scenery, and hospitality.

The 2000 and 2007 shows were both held in Morphettville, South Australia—an unusual but celebrated double host venue within the same decade. The later was marked with some controversy due to the number of disqualifications.

In 2001, Freemantle welcomed exhibitors from across the nation to Western Australia’s coastal charm. The following year, Tasmania hosted the event in Hobart, marking a scenic and successful gathering in Australia’s island state.

Cairns hosted in 2003, bringing the show to Far North Queensland’s tropical setting, while Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, provided a relaxed, beachside backdrop in 2004. Melbourne’s 2005 show was a highlight, attracting a large crowd and offering one of the best-attended events of the decade.

In 2006, Caloundra, QLD, hosted the national event, further establishing Queensland as a key supporter of the ANBC’s rotation system. The 2008 show took place in Busselton, WA, showcasing the South West region’s growing interest in budgerigar breeding.

Finally, in 2009, Burnie, TAS, brought the decade to a close with a well-received event that once again highlighted Tasmania’s capability and community spirit in hosting major exhibitions.

Across the decade, the ANBC Shows maintained a strong tradition of breeder excellence, national camaraderie, and an ongoing commitment to the development and promotion of the fancy. Each location brought its own flavour to the national stage, building a lasting legacy of this golden era in Australian budgerigar exhibition.
