ANBC National Shows: 2010 to 2019 Recap

The decade from 2010 to 2019 saw the ANBC National Budgerigar Championship Show hosted across a wide range of regional and capital cities, each bringing its own flavour and energy to the nation’s premier exhibition event.

The decade opened in Rockhampton, Queensland in 2010, marking a successful return to regional Queensland. The following year, Canberra hosted the 2011 event, which coincided with the World Budgerigar Organisation (WBO) annual meeting, drawing international attention to the nation’s capital.

Geelong, Victoria delivered a standout show in 2012, with excellent local support and a well-received two-tier judging system. In 2013, the competition moved to Toowoomba, introducing a trial of two birds per class and additional classes, a shift that sparked debate across the hobby.

Adelaide, South Australia hosted in 2014, offering a strong central location and smooth organisation. The following year, the show crossed to Mandurah, Western Australia, offering fanciers a coastal escape and strong WA representation.

In 2016, Hobart welcomed breeders back to Tasmania, providing a scenic and relaxed setting. Mackay, Queensland hosted in 2017, continuing Queensland’s strong decade of involvement, before the show moved to Penrith, New South Wales in 2018, showcasing a highly competitive lineup near Sydney.

The decade closed with a return to Brisbane in 2019, one of the strongest shows of recent years in terms of entries, attendance, and support. This year also marked a continuation of the digital evolution of the show, with livestreaming and improved coverage bringing the Nationals to a wider audience.
