ANBC Hall of Fame, Breeders Excellence Induction: 2015
The esteemed husband and wife team of Ces and Brenda Gearing proudly represented Western Australia and were inducted into the ANBC Hall of Fame – Breeders Excellence Division in 2015. Their inclusion came as recognition of a highly successful exhibition career, marked by a total of eight national class wins across a wide range of varieties.
Their first national win came in 2003 in the Albino class, a variety they would go on to master with further wins in 2011 and 2015—making them one of the most successful exhibitors in that class. Their Albino wins demonstrated a consistency and depth of breeding that earned admiration across the Australian fancy.
In 2008, Ces and Brenda secured a win in the Opaline class, followed by an outstanding double win at the 2011 Nationals, claiming both the Albino and Hens classes. Their ability to present high-quality hens, alongside their success in colour varieties, spoke to a well-rounded and expertly managed breeding program.
The 2013 win in the Grey variety added another feather to their cap, and in the year of their Hall of Fame induction, 2015, they once again showed their strength with two more wins—one in Albino and the other in Spangle AOSV. Their final national win came in 2018 with the Dilute variety, showcasing their ongoing excellence well into their later years in the hobby.
Ces, who is sadly now deceased, and Brenda together built a legacy of quality and commitment to the budgerigar fancy. Their contribution to the Western Australian scene and the national level remains an inspiration to many breeders. Their Hall of Fame status is a fitting tribute to a partnership defined by dedication, knowledge, and enduring success.

About the Hall of Fame
The ‘Breeder Excellence’ award serves to formally recognise individual breeders or partnerships who demonstrate a significant and consistent contribution to the fancy. It not only celebrates the exhibition of budgerigars of the highest standard but also acknowledges sustained dedication and exceptional achievement in the competitive sphere of the hobby.
Each year, inductees are announced and presented with a certificate during the Presentation Dinner, held on the Sunday evening of the A.N.B.C. Inc. National Competition Show. This moment marks a public and prestigious recognition of their success.
Furthermore, eligibility for inclusion in the ‘Breeder Excellence’ division is determined by results in any variety class that qualifies for State or Zone points at the Nationals. Notably, exhibition-only classes are excluded from this consideration.
To qualify for induction into the Hall of Fame, Breeder Excellence Division, an exhibitor must meet one of the following criteria:
- Win seven (7) classes across any variety, or
- Win the same class on four (4) separate occasions.
Ultimately, this honour represents one of the highest forms of recognition within the Australian budgerigar fancy, celebrating those who continue to raise the bar in quality and commitment.
