ANBC Hall of Fame, Breeders Excellence Division Induction: 2011

The South Australian partnership of Kelwyn Kakoschke and John Rice stands proudly in the ANBC Hall of Fame – Breeders Excellence Division, recognised for their outstanding record of 12 national class wins. Their success spans over several decades, highlighting their consistency, dedication, and shared commitment to excellence in budgerigar breeding.

Although Kelwyn had been inducted into the Hall of Fame in his own right with wins in the 80’s and 90’s, the partnership secured their first national title came in 2003 with a Crest. This was quickly followed by a remarkable triple victory in 2005, taking out the Green, Clearwing, and Crest classes.

The Clearwing variety became a particular strength for the partnership, with four national wins in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2016—placing them among the top exhibitors in this challenging class. They also achieved repeated success with the Opaline AOSV, winning it in 2010 and 2015, and the main Opaline class in both 2011 and 2019. In 2016, they added a Grey Green title to their impressive list of wins, further demonstrating their versatility across a wide range of varieties.

Notably, Kelwyn Kakoschke is also inducted into the ANBC Hall of Fame in his own right, an honour that speaks to his personal legacy and lifelong contribution to the fancy. His individual achievements, combined with the success of his partnership with John Rice, reflect a deep understanding of budgerigar genetics and a passion for breeding excellence.

Together, Kelwyn and John exemplify the spirit of the Hall of Fame. Their record is not just a list of wins, but a testament to years of careful planning, thoughtful selection, and a love for the hobby that continues to inspire breeders across Australia.

In 2023, Kelwyn began showing under his own name, winning the Clearwing Class in Ballarat.
