ANBC Hall of Fame, Breeders Excellence Division Induction: 2008

Wayne Cusack of New South Wales holds a unique and distinguished place in the Australian National Budgerigar Council (ANBC) Hall of Fame. Inducted into the Breeders Excellence Division, Wayne is the only exhibitor to have entered the Hall of Fame purely under the second eligibility criterion: winning the same class on four separate occasions at the ANBC National Competition.

Wayne’s remarkable run came in the Black Eyed Self Colour class—a variety that demands precision breeding and a strong eye for detail. His dominance began in 2005, when he claimed his first national win in the class. He followed this with consecutive victories in 2006, 2007, and 2008—meeting the requirement of four separate wins in the same class and securing his place in the Hall of Fame. To that end, Wayne didn’t have to win the classes back-to-back, but he did!

Notably, Wayne went on to claim a fifth Black Eyed Self Colour win in 2018, a full decade after his fourth. This win further reinforced his reputation as a specialist in the variety and showcased the long-term consistency and quality of his stud.

While many Hall of Fame inductees qualify through success across a range of classes, Wayne’s path stands out for its focused excellence. His dedication to perfecting one variety, year after year, highlights a deep understanding of budgerigar genetics and a refined breeding program.

Wayne’s induction celebrates not only his achievements but also the value of persistence, patience, and mastery in one area of the fancy.
