December has been a quiet month here in Tassie with only the clubs annual Christmas parties. As we all wind down from the big year it has been for the Hobbie here in Tasmania, I wanted to reflect on some of the achievements and events that have made 2025 a memorable year here. Before preparations are underway for our first shows in early February, let us look back.
In early February the CBS held their annual Diploma show which was their 50th anniversary. Judges for the day were Mal and Rob Randall (ANBC) from Victoria. Champion bird of the show was any age bird bred and exhibited by J&J Fletcher. The Champion young bird and Diploma winner was bred and exhibited by the Charlesworth Family.
The following week it was the NTBS which held its Diploma show and judges were Jim Fletcher (ANBC) and Dale Ward (Tas probationary). Diploma winner and Champion bird in show was bred and exhibited by Stephen Jacklyn.
March was the TBS Diploma show with judges Peter Thurn (ANBC) and Dale Ward (Tas Probationary). Diploma winner and champion bird in show was bred and exhibited by John Burt.
May was the 49th Annual Trill™ Expert ANBC national show held in Cairns. Although Tassie was languishing at the bottom of the Zones, there were some standout results and an overall improvement on the points tally from 2024. John Burt won a Logie with an Ino. Roy Blair also got a Logie in the Spangle AOSV class. This was Tassie’s first win since 2017 and the first time since 2012 Tassie has had multiple wins. There were a couple of 3rd placings, one in the Opaline class by the Charlesworth family and one in the Crested class by S & D Walkley.
The second half of the year was kicked off with a Presentation show held by the TBS. Judges were Derek Poole (ANBC) and Peter Kross (Tas Probationary). Champion bird in show and Champion young bird was bred and exhibited by the Charlesworth Family.
In August the BCT held a Budgie enthusiasts’ day which was attended by members from all over the state. The day was also advertised to the General public, which drew many through the doors to view the demonstrations, talks, and many birds on offer for sale. Many went home with full cages and a membership form to one of the three clubs here.
NTBS held a small club show in conjunction with the Longford Show at the Longford show grounds in October. There were many of the public through the doors on the day. Adults and kids alike enjoyed the birds on display. Members chatted with the public and answered many questions.
Late October the BCT held its Futures champion show at the Perth community Hall. This show is for Novice and Intermediate breeders only, exhibiting current 2025 rings. The Intermediate champion was Andrew Johnson, and the Novice winner was Michael Jones.
TBS held its annual Ray Ryder Unbroken cap show and family BBQ at the Richmond Volunteer Fire Station in late November. Champion UBC in show was awarded to Peter Howard. The judging was conducted by Jim Fletcher (ANBC).
As 2025 comes to a close, the BCT would like to thank all those who contributed to making 2025 a memorable year. We look forward to doing it all again in 2026.
