Western Australian Budgerigar Council (WABC) 

The Rare Budgerigar Club of WA held its annual Christmas lunch, which was well attended by members. The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA also held its AGM, Christmas function, and annual Silent Auction, with over 90 birds on offer to members. It was a great day and was enjoyed by all who attended.

After chatting with a number of breeders at our recent Christmas functions about how their breeding season went in 2025, it seems most had a reasonable year. Many are already well into planning and pairing for the 2026 season, which is very promising for Western Australia.

Looking ahead to the new year, the WABC will hold its AGM on 10 January 2026. The WABC State Show and Derby will be held in Coodanup, WA on 15 February 2026, hosted by the Southwest Budgerigar Club of WA.

WABC Jan 2026 Fundraising

The Western Australian Budgerigar Council continues its fundraising efforts towards hosting the 2028 Nationals. The lucky number raffle still has around 100 tickets to go, with two excellent birds on offer from champion breeders Mick Gearing and Les Trumper. The raffle will be drawn on 10 January 2026, so there isn’t long left to grab your tickets. A reminder that transport is covered for interstate participants, kindly provided by Animal Freight Australia (thanks to Mick and Ann). Our show cage raffle was drawn on 6 December 2025 at the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA Christmas function and Silent Auction. First prize was won by Brenda Camarda, and second prize (donated by Jandakot Stock and Pet Supplies) was won by Les Woodcock.

Moving into 2026, the WABC is hoping to run a few additional fundraising events to further support our 2028 Nationals campaign.
