President’s Report NQBZ Feb 2026

Zone Selection Show Countdown

It’s hard to believe how quickly the months are rolling by—already it’s time for another NQ Budgerigar Zone (N.Q.B.Z.) President’s Report. Before we know it, the Zone Selection Show for ANBC National Show team selection will be here. Many fanciers are now giving their teams a masterful once-over, searching for that standout bird capable of delivering the magic blue ribbon. Best of luck to everyone preparing birds for the show bench.

Up north, we were fortunate to miss the cyclone, but the rain event was enormous, with many areas recording over a metre of rainfall. Conditions like this can quickly impact budgerigar health, so now is the time to be extra vigilant. Damp weather can bring a few unwanted “nasties,” so keep a close eye on cleanliness, ventilation, and any early signs of illness in the aviary.

At this stage, only a small number of breeders have birds down, which may mean a few “green ringers” appear early. For most of us, this period has been a well-earned break from breeding—however, it won’t be long before we are back into it. Hopefully, for many, 2026 will prove to be a stronger year across the fancy.

Planning for the NQ Zone Selection Show is progressing well. The show hall has been secured, carers have been selected, and catering has been organised—everything is falling into place as the event approaches.

That’s all from me this month. I hope you all enjoyed a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Until next month—may your feathered friends fly well.
