Tasmanian Budgerigar Society Inc. Honours Trevor Johnson with Life Membership

The Tasmanian Budgerigar Society Inc. (Hobart) is proud to award Life Membership to Trevor Stanley Johnson, recognising his outstanding service and dedication to the budgerigar hobby in Tasmania over the past 26 years.

When asked when he first joined the club, Trevor chuckled and said, “It’s been so long, I honestly don’t remember.” Some members jokingly suggest it was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth—however, official records confirm Trevor’s membership began in 1998.

A member every budgerigar club hopes for

Trevor is the type of club member every organisation dreams of: reliable, versatile, and always willing to help. Whether it’s setting up and dismantling show staging, stewarding on show day, supporting fellow members, or stepping up for fundraising, Trevor is always there.

He’s consistently among the first to volunteer for community fundraising events such as Bunnings sausage sizzles, garden shows, and other club initiatives. Trevor has also regularly assisted by caring for fellow members’ birds while they travel—an often unseen but vital form of support within the budgerigar community.

Practical leadership and service behind the scenes

Over many years, Trevor has taken on countless essential roles within the Society. His contribution was particularly valuable during major events and challenging times:

  • 2016 ANBC National Show (Hobart): Trevor built additional holding cages to support the successful staging of the National event.
  • Dunalley bushfires support: When a fellow member tragically lost his home, aviaries, and birds in the Dunalley bushfires, Trevor helped rebuild the aviary and generously donated birds to assist him in starting again.
  • Trailer replacement and upgrade: After the Society’s trailer was destroyed in an accident two years ago, Trevor led the effort to source a replacement and played a key role in upgrading and fitting out the new trailer.

Trevor’s service reflects the best of the hobby—people helping people, and clubs strengthened by members who quietly do the work that keeps everything running.
