Western Australian Budgerigar Clubs Celebrate a Memorable Month

April proved to be a significant and meaningful month for budgerigar enthusiasts across Western Australia, with two clubs hosting special events that combined competition, celebration and community spirit.

The South West Budgerigar Club (Mandurah) marked an important milestone, celebrating its 35th anniversary during a recent Table Show. Although attendance was impacted by seasonal illness, those who were able to attend enjoyed a warm and festive occasion. A highlight of the day was a delightful high tea, thoughtfully prepared by the club’s dedicated social organisers. Alongside the anniversary celebrations, an ungraded show was conducted, providing an enjoyable and relaxed competitive environment for participants.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of Western Australia held its own Table Show, which coincided with ANZAC Day. In recognition of the significance of the occasion, the club dedicated the event to honouring Australia’s service men and women. Special themed awards were presented, including Best Bird in Show in honour of the Australian Defence Force, Best Open representing the Army, Best Intermediate the Royal Australian Air Force, Best Novice the Navy, and Best Hen dedicated to ADF nurses.

The club also organised a raffle, with generously donated prizes, and all proceeds were contributed to the local RSL — further reinforcing the day’s commemorative spirit.

Looking ahead to May, the Rare Budgerigar Club of Western Australia will host a graded Table Show on 2 May 2026, with a focus on young birds as the special feature of the month. Attention will then turn to the Nationals, with Western Australia’s selection event scheduled for 16 May 2026 at the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA. Early indications suggest the state will once again be strongly represented at the national level.
