Welcome to your Monthly Edition of the ANBC Gazette
Dear Fanciers,
The ANBC Working Group continues to build momentum, developing ideas aimed at moving the National event forward in a positive and proactive way. It is well understood that there is still considerable work ahead before the vision of a National Show fully coordinated by the ANBC—and embraced by the hobby as a whole—can be fully realised.
Importantly, the role of the hosting Zone remains central to the success of the event, and that is exactly how it should be. What we are working towards is greater consistency and refinement, with the ANBC providing guidance to support the continued evolution of the National Show.
A key area of focus is sponsorship—looking at how we can strengthen relationships with our supporters, recognising what they bring to our hobby, and ensuring we provide value in return for their involvement, time, and investment. At the same time, the aim is to grow the National Show into an event that not only showcases our hobby on a broader stage, but also ensures that local breeders, exhibitors, and enthusiasts feel genuinely connected and part of it.
Grassroots members and clubs remain the backbone of the ANBC and always will be. The future of the organisation depends on those who are willing to contribute, share ideas, and help drive the vision forward.
With the 2026 Trill Expert National on the Gold Coast now just weeks away, anticipation is building. Across the country, breeders are preparing their birds in the hope of earning selection in their Zone teams and competing on the national stage.
The ANBC extends its best wishes to all exhibitors and their Zone teams—safe travels and the very best of luck. One thing to be mindful of in May is the ANBC Social Media Policy. None of the THREE birds selected in any of the classes or the RESERVE from any of the classes that have been selected to represent any of the “Zones” at the National Show are to be promoted or discussed in any post on any Website or Social Media page until AFTER the ANBC Show is concluded. Penalties for doing so may be applied, including disqualification of the promoted bird/birds or the Zones entire Team from being able to compete at the ANBC National Show.
Finally, members are advised that the ANBC Annual General Meeting will be held on 15 June 2026, with nominations closing on 30 May 2026.

The Power of Normals
They might look simple, but normals hold the key to stronger lines, better colour, and real show success. Overlooked by many, mastered by the best—this guide reveals why starting with normals isn’t just smart, it’s essential. Ignore them, and you could be limiting your entire breeding potential without realising it.

At the close of each Gazette, there is always a sense of relief for the team that brings it all together, and this month has been no different. There were moments when it felt like an article might not arrive, or that a key line had been overlooked, however once again we have delivered a quality publication that we trust our subscribers look forward to each month.
I encourage all breeders to put pen to paper. If you have a question for Hamish, our resident veterinarian, or if you would like to contribute a few words on behalf of your local club, please don’t hesitate to submit your thoughts. Progress is built on shared ideas and open discussion, not by holding back. Every contribution has value, regardless of the outcome.
I wish everyone the very best with your Zone selections, and hope that your pride and joy earns a place at the National on the Gold Coast this May. If not, get behind your fellow breeders and club members—support them and wish them well. Whether you place first or twenty-second, you have competed, and that alone is something to be proud of.
Best of luck to the candidates undertaking the ANBC National Judges Practical Examination, and to all participants in general.
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all ANZAC’s, those who have served, and continue to serve, in our armed forces. Without your dedication and sacrifice, Australia would not be the country it is today. We extend our gratitude to our Kiwi friends—thank you.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the Gold Coast.
Warm Regards,
Neale R Love
ANBC Secretary
