July a Busy Month for Western Australian Budgerigar Clubs

July proved to be another busy and rewarding month for budgerigar enthusiasts across Western Australia, with three successful club events bringing together breeders, exhibitors and supporters from across the state. Despite the challenges of winter weather, exhibitors continued to show their commitment to the hobby, making each event an enjoyable opportunity to compete, catch up with fellow fanciers and admire the quality of birds on display.

The month featured the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA Annual Championship Show, along with table shows conducted by the South West Budgerigar Club of WA and the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA. Each event was well supported by members and visitors alike, reinforcing the strong sense of community that exists within the Western Australian budgerigar fraternity.

While attendance remained encouraging across all three events, the number of birds benched was lower than in previous months. This is not unusual during the colder winter period, when breeding programs, moulting birds and seasonal conditions can all influence exhibitor numbers. Even so, the quality of the exhibits presented demonstrated the dedication and high standards maintained by Western Australian breeders.

A significant milestone for the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA was the successful staging of its Annual Championship Show at its new venue in Bayswater. Members were impressed with the excellent facilities, which provide a spacious and welcoming environment for exhibitors, judges and visitors. The move marks an exciting new chapter for the club, with the venue offering excellent opportunities for future growth and the continued promotion of rare variety budgerigars throughout the state.

As the exhibition season continues, members can look forward to another busy month in August. The Rare Budgerigar Club of WA will host its next table show on 1 August at the Drill Hall in Bayswater, followed by the South West Budgerigar Club of WA’s table show on 16 August. The month will conclude with the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA’s table show on 22 August 2026. Members are encouraged to support each event by exhibiting birds, assisting with the running of the shows or simply attending to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie that makes the hobby so rewarding.

Every show provides an opportunity not only to compete but also to learn from fellow breeders, encourage newcomers and showcase the quality of budgerigars being bred throughout the state. With several events still to come before the end of the year, members can look forward to more friendly competition, outstanding birds and continued fellowship within the Western Australian budgerigar community.
