A widely respected figure in the Australian and international budgerigar fancy, Gary Gazzard is known for his exceptional breeding success with the modern budgerigar and his prestigious role as an ANBC National judge. Representing New South Wales, Gary’s dedication to the exhibition of budgerigars spans decades and has earned him a place among the elite in the ANBC Hall of Fame, with a total of 10 National Class wins.

Gary first tasted national success in 1992 with dual class wins in Opaline and Spangle Combined, the latter becoming a class in which he would dominate over the years. His expertise in the Spangle variety is unmatched, claiming four wins in the Spangle Combined class—1992, 1996, 2004, and 2005—plus a notable win in Spangle Double Factor in 2004. That same year, he also achieved wins in the Blue class, showcasing the depth and versatility of his stud.

Further national titles followed in Grey Green (2005), Hens Class (2007), and a second Opaline win in 2012, rounding out an outstanding career of competitive success.

Additionally, to his achievements on the show bench, Gary has made a lasting impact as a judge at the highest levels, having judged five ANBC National Shows. His deep knowledge of The Standard and eye for the modern budgerigar have seen him judge across Australia and internationally, where he is held in high esteem by fanciers worldwide.

Gary’s Hall of Fame induction is a fitting recognition of a lifetime devoted to excellence in breeding, exhibiting, and judging. Moreover, his contributions continue to inspire and educate breeders at all levels, making him one of the most influential figures in the modern budgerigar fancy.
