BCT BUDGERIGAR ENTHUSIASTS’ DAY 2026

The Budgerigar Council of Tasmania held a Budgerigar enthusiast`s day on Saturday the 15th of August at the Campbell Town Guide Hall.

Members from all 3 clubs here in Tasmania were invited with many in attendance. The BCT also invited non club members along. Members bought birds along that they no longer required and offered them for sale to club members and to non-members.

There was a steady flow of non-members. Many arrived with empty cages and left with full cages and a bargain. Members were generous with their sales. Furthermore, many also gave extra birds to those who purchased some.

Members from all clubs were on hand to speak to the public and answer questions. New membership forms were handed out, and a couple were filled out and signed up on the day.

Derek Poole and Jim Fletcher gave a talk and demonstration on the day about spotting birds and the methods they use. I believe online sales of a bench mounted magnified glass with a built in LED light may increase. Both spoke of the importance of taking your time. They told attendees it is best to do the process over a few days to a week.

The BCT provided a light lunch. During the day there was plenty of conversations about the numerous motions tabled at the recent ANBC meetings.

The main feature of the day for club members was the sale of birds from interstate and state breeders.  This year there were birds on offer at fixed prices from Derek Poole, Kevin Ocallaghan and the partnership of Nigel Tonkin and Beau Schutz. The BCT thanks all these breeders for your support of our small state. There was plenty of talk around the birds on offer. It was good to see the open breeders answering questions and providing help to the novice and beginner breeders.

A successful event which is growing year on year and looked forward to by many members.
