BCV Report July 2026

BCV July Report 2026

With the 50th Annual Trill™ Expert ANBC National Championships now behind us, Victoria enters a brief winter recess in terms of exhibition events, as we await the return of warmer weather and the Spring show season. The auction calendar, however, tells a very different story, with activity ramping up quickly as we move into another busy mid-year period.

The Eastern District Prestige Auction, conducted earlier in June following the Nationals, was once again reported as a great success, continuing its strong reputation among exhibitors and buyers alike.

More recently, the Riverina Auction, hosted by the Riverina Budgerigar Society Inc., was held on the banks of the NSW–Victoria border and proved to be an outstanding weekend all round. The Saturday evening pre-auction dinner and social gathering was extremely well supported, with approximately 80 budgerigar enthusiasts attending for an enjoyable night of conversation and camaraderie among like-minded individuals. At times, you could almost forget the weekend was about birds at all, with free-flowing discussions over food and drinks highlighting the strong mateship that defines our hobby.

With attendees travelling from as far north as Queensland and as far south as Tasmania and everywhere in between, the event provided a welcome opportunity for many long-standing friendships to be rekindled. The following day saw a very healthy number of registrations for bidders’ paddles, with just under 100 participants involved in the auction itself. A well-balanced offering of quality birds resulted in the Riverina Auction recording its strongest results yet, marking a significant milestone in its 11th year since inception. Sincere thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making it such a landmark event on the budgerigar fraternity calendar.
