James Matthews Auctions 2026
James Matthews Auctions 1, 2 & 3 – 59 Quality Birds Available
The James Matthews Auctions 2026 present a rare opportunity to secure birds from one of New South Wales’ most consistent and proven exhibitors. Across three consecutive auctions, a total of 59 birds will be offered, giving breeders and exhibitors access to a wide selection of quality stock.
All three auctions will commence together, allowing buyers to assess every lot before bidding begins to close.
This format ensures buyers can plan their bidding strategy across all auctions, while still enjoying manageable catalogue sizes.
About James Matthews
James Matthews has built an outstanding record in the show scene, particularly across BSNSW Branch and Associate shows, where he has secured 21 Grand Champion awards with 10 different birds over the past six seasons.
At National level, his success continues:
- Birds selected for 9 consecutive ANBC Nationals
- 2017 National Winner – AOSV Spangle (Cinnamon Greygreen hen)
- 2019 National Winner – Greywing Greygreen cock
- 18 representatives over the past five Nationals
- 10 Top 9 finishes in that period
- 6 representatives in 2022, with a best placing of 3rd in Greywing
While James breeds across multiple varieties, Spangles form the cornerstone of his aviary and feature strongly throughout these auctions.
Why Three Auctions?
The decision to run three auctions of approximately 20 birds each was made to improve the buyer experience. Larger catalogues can be difficult to follow, so this format allows bidders to stay engaged and focused while still accessing a broad selection of birds.
With all auctions visible from the outset, buyers can identify targets early and bid with confidence across multiple sales.
Bird Quality & Selection
This offering includes a mix of:
- Selected 2023/2024 birds retained as reserves
- Early 2025 rung birds
- Late 2025 rung birds, some released earlier than planned
These birds are being made available to create space for the upcoming 2026 youngsters, presenting a genuine opportunity to secure quality stock from a productive season.
Descriptions are kept objective, with multiple photos per lot provided to give buyers a clear and honest representation of each bird.
Location & Freight
All birds are located at Collector (near Goulburn), NSW.
- Pickup available from Collector
- Freight available via Canberra Airport
- Transport boxes available for $15 each
- Freight costs are the responsibility of the buyer
Freight can be arranged with various providers, including Aussie Pet Connections, which has received strong feedback from previous buyers. Assistance with contact details can be provided if required.
All air freight shipments are intended to be coordinated on the same day, ensuring efficient delivery following the close of the final auction.
Fair Bidding System
To ensure fairness for all participants, extended bidding will be in place. Any bids placed within the final three minutes will extend the auction by an additional three minutes, for up to 30 minutes total.
This prevents last-second bidding and allows all participants a fair opportunity to respond.
Don’t Miss This Opportunity
With 59 birds across three structured auctions, this is a significant release from a highly successful aviary.
Starting prices have been intentionally set low, allowing the market to determine value and giving all buyers a genuine chance to secure birds.
Whether you are targeting Spangles or looking to strengthen your team across multiple varieties, these auctions provide depth, quality, and opportunity.
Good luck, and good breeding.
