SQBBA Jan 2026 Report

Well, that’s another year done and dusted. I hope that for many, most things in life have turned out okay. For those who have had a tough year through ill health or loss, I truly hope next year brings brighter days.

This year has seen South Queensland Budgerigar Breeders Association enjoy another competitive result at National level, placing 3rd again. Thank you to all breeders who presented birds for zone selection. Furthermore, congratulations to those whose birds were selected — it is no easy feat.

The show season was well supported overall, with a few hiccups along the way. A cyclone early in the year unfortunately resulted in the SQBBA Futures Show being cancelled. The All Queensland Super Show was once again strongly supported. We extend our sincere thanks to our major sponsor, Tummy Rite. South Queensland breeders greatly appreciate your continued support.

This year, the SQBBA also undertook the enormous task of developing a new Constitution. A law firm specialising in constitutional law was engaged to prepare the initial draft. Additionally, Club Presidents have met several times throughout the year to ensure the document meets all requirements of SQBBA. The cooperation and support shown by the Presidents has been outstanding, and it demonstrates what can be achieved when everyone is working in the same direction.

South Queensland is now looking forward to the ANBC Nationals, and the committee is committed to delivering a great show. We would also like to congratulate the judges who have been selected. As a committee, we feel we have an exciting quartet. The panel includes experienced locals and a highly respected international judge. This event offers the special opportunity of having the first father-and-son judging panel at an ANBC National Show.

In Closing

In closing, the SQBBA is seeking help in sourcing photos from past Nationals. We would love images of people receiving awards, as well as group shots from any Nationals. If you can help, please contact Garry Hibberd at hghibberd@gmail.com. We are hoping to create a “trip down memory lane” as part of this year’s event.

Regards,

Garry Hibberd
