Western Australian Budgerigar Council Update: AGM, Fundraising, and 2026 Show Calendar

The Western Australian Budgerigar Council (WABC) kicked off 2026 with its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in early January, including several changes to the executive committee. Following the AGM, WABC held a general meeting focused on key priorities for the year. These priorities included planning for the upcoming WABC State Show and State Derby, confirming areas of responsibility for this year’s National carers, and continuing early preparation for the 2028 ANBC National Show. Notably, this event will be hosted by Western Australia.

A busy February for WA budgerigar clubs

February is shaping up to be a strong month on the WA budgerigar calendar. The Rare Budgerigar Club of WA will hold its AGM at a new venue. Meanwhile, the South West Budgerigar Club of WA will host the flagship WABC State Show & State Derby. Furthermore, the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA will run its first table show for 2026.

WABC hopes everyone enjoyed the festive period and wishes all members a happy and prosperous New Year. Also, it hopes you have the chance to breed that champion we all dream about.

2028 Nationals planning and fundraising focus

With the 2028 Nationals on the horizon, WABC will be increasing its focus on planning and—critically—fundraising throughout the year. Moreover, fundraising will be a major priority as the Council works towards delivering a successful National event for exhibitors, visitors, and the wider budgerigar community.

Lucky Numbers fundraiser: results and thanks

On 10 January 2026, WABC finalised and drew its Lucky Numbers fundraiser during the AGM with the committee present. The first number drawn was 179; however, as that number had not been selected, a second draw was conducted. The winning number was 63, with the lucky winner being Les Woodcock.

WABC extends sincere thanks to Mick Gearing and Les Trumper for their generous donation of birds, and to Mick and Ann from Animal Freight Australia for providing transport support for interstate participants. The Council also thanks every participant who supported this fundraising initiative. It looks forward to continued support as WA builds momentum toward hosting the 2028 ANBC Nationals.
