WA President’s Report

The Western Australian Budgerigar Council (WABC) held its annual State Derby and State Show for 2026 on 15 February 2026. The show was well attended, with exhibitors benching 277 birds—a great day for the hobby. Thank you to the South West Budgerigar Club of WA for hosting the show, and to our judges Alan Jaeschke and Brad Demarti for undertaking the big task on the day.

I would also like to recognise our sponsors: Michelle Walters and Flying High Horse Wear, along with MBL for their awesome donation of a raffle prize for the day.

With some great birds benched in both shows, Norm Wheatley was the breeder to take out both shows—winning the State Derby and State Show. Congratulations to Norm. It was great to see so many birds benched on the day, even with the high temperatures leading up to the event.

In early February, the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA held its AGM, with the first time the club hosting at its new home at the Parish in Craige. The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA will hold its first show for the year on 28 February 2026, which is a graded table show.

Looking into March, the three Western Australian clubs have a show each, starting with the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA holding their first show at their new home. The South West Budgerigar Club of WA will be holding their AGM, Young Hens Championship and Young Bird Derby, and finally the Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA will hold its annual Championship Show.

The WABC continues to find ways to raise funds to host the 2028 Trill™ Expert ANBC National, and planning for the show continues.
