WABC Report November 2026

Western Australia Budgerigar Scene

Western Australia’s budgerigar fancy has enjoyed a busy and successful month, with three clubs hosting well-attended shows throughout the month. From strong entries and enthusiastic member participation, there were plenty of highlights. For example, the first major show at a new venue gave more reasons for optimism. In addition, the season continues to build momentum.

With three events completed and an exciting calendar of shows, auctions and social gatherings on the horizon, the Western Australian fancy is showing no signs of slowing down.

Monthly Show Round-Up

Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA

The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA kicked off the month’s activity with a table show that attracted a strong turnout from members. Nearly 100 birds were benched. This made for an enjoyable day of competition. Moreover, it gave an excellent opportunity for members to showcase their birds.

The show produced an outstanding result for Les Trumper, whose birds enjoyed a remarkable day in the show cage. He took out a host of major awards across Best in Show, grade and age categories. There was also plenty of success among the club’s other exhibitors, with members sharing the honours across the Intermediate and Novice sections.

The strong attendance and quality of the entries were welcome signs for the club. In fact, this reinforced the enthusiasm and commitment of its members.

Rare Budgerigar Club of WA – BRASEA Show

The Rare Budgerigar Club of WA also enjoyed a successful month, holding its annual BRASEA show. The event was well supported, with more than 100 birds benched and members turning out in good numbers.

The show was particularly significant as the club’s first major event at its new venue. Moving to a new location is an important step for any club. Furthermore, the strong participation was an encouraging start for the venue and the events to come.

The BRASEA show once again provided an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of budgerigar varieties. Awards recognised the best of the special rare varieties, remaining rares, non-rares and heritage birds. The perpetual trophies also added a special touch to the occasion. These trophies recognised excellence in both young and adult birds.

With such a positive response to the new venue, the club will be looking forward to building on this success. It now prepares for one of the major highlights of its calendar: the upcoming Inaugural Auction.

South West Budgerigar Club of WA

Rounding out the months shows, the South West Budgerigar Club of WA held another of its popular table shows. As with the other events during the month, member support was strong. Altogether, this provided a fitting conclusion to a busy period for the Western Australian fancy.

The show delivered a range of successful results across the major awards. Stephen Ramsden took Best in Show and Best Open Grade. Ian Cullen also enjoyed success, winning Best Opp Sex and Best Intermediate. Meanwhile, Brian and Sandy Bell took out Best Novice.

The club’s continued success in attracting members to its table shows reflects the important role these events play in keeping members connected. These events encourage friendly competition and provide regular opportunities to exhibit and evaluate birds.

Looking Ahead

If last month was busy, the coming month promises to be even bigger, with major events on the calendar for all three clubs. Members and enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to, from championship competition to an auction expected to attract interest from breeders across Australia.

Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA – UBC Championship Show

The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club of WA is preparing to host its UBC Championship Show, an important event on the club’s calendar.

Following the strong turnout at September’s table show, attention now turns to the championship. Here, exhibitors will have another opportunity to present their birds and compete for top honours. Championship shows are always a highlight of the season. They bring together quality birds, experienced exhibitors and members eager to see how the competition unfolds.

With the club already demonstrating strong support at its recent event, expectations will be high for another successful show.

Rare Budgerigar Club of WA – The Inagural Auction

One of the most anticipated upcoming events is the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA’s Inaugural Auction.

The auction is shaping up to be a major attraction, with a fantastic selection of birds being offered by breeders from across Australia. For buyers, this presents an opportunity to explore a diverse range of birds and bloodlines. It also allows them to meet fellow enthusiasts. Furthermore, they can potentially add valuable new birds to their breeding or exhibition teams.

For breeders, auctions also provide an important avenue to showcase their work and make birds available to others looking to develop their own studs.

With birds coming from various breeders around the country, the inaugural Auction promises to generate plenty of interest within the fancy. In particular, the breadth of the offering is expected to make it an event worth watching for both established breeders. It will also be attractive for those looking to take the next step in their budgerigar pursuits.

The club’s successful BRASEA show and the positive start at its new venue have already helped build momentum. Moreover, the auction provides another opportunity for the Rare Budgerigar Club of WA to bring members and the wider budgerigar community together.

Prospective buyers are encouraged to checkout the official catalogue, bird details, auction arrangements and other announcements as the event approaches.

South West Budgerigar Club of WA – Christmas Lunch and Broken and Unbroken Cap Show

The South West Budgerigar Club of WA will round out the upcoming program with its annual Christmas lunch and Broken and Unbroken Cap Show.

This event combines the competitive side of the fancy with the social spirit that makes club life so important. The Christmas lunch provides members with an opportunity to relax, catch up with friends and celebrate the year’s achievements. Meanwhile, the Broken and Unbroken Cap Show brings the focus back to the birds.

The event has a reputation for attracting good support. Accordingly, members will once again be looking forward to the opportunity to exhibit their birds in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

With the year moving towards its close, the combination of a special show and a club Christmas gathering makes this a fitting occasion for the South West club to celebrate another year of activity and look ahead to what comes next.

Members should keep an eye on club communications for the event date, venue and any entry or lunch arrangements.

A Strong Finish to the Year

The last month has demonstrated the strength of the Western Australian budgerigar fancy, with three successful club events, excellent member participation and more than 200 birds benched across the Metropolitan and Rare Budgerigar club shows alone.

Just as importantly, the month has provided a platform for the busy program ahead. The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club’s UBC Championship Show is coming up. Furthermore, the Rare Budgerigar Club’s Inaugural Auction and the South West Budgerigar Club’s Christmas lunch and Broken and Unbroken Cap Show each offer something different for members and enthusiasts.

Whether it is the challenge of championship competition, the excitement of bidding on quality birds or the opportunity to enjoy the social side of the fancy, there is plenty happening in Western Australia.

Congratulations to all the winners, exhibitors, organisers and club members who helped make the month such a success. With strong support already evident across the three clubs, the months ahead promise to be just as exciting.
