WBO Report June 2026

World Budgerigar Organisation

31st WBO Meeting

Friday 12th June 2026 – Reggio Emilia, Italy

To All WBO Delegates and Affiliated Societies’ Officials

We are only four weeks away from our WBO meeting in Reggio Emilia, and I need to bring the following information to your attention.

Venue: The WBO meeting room and show venue will be held at Via Fratelli Manfredi, 57/3 – Reggio Emilia (RE).

The show is organised by the Società Ornitologica Reggiana, the Club Amici dell’Ondulato, and the Club Italiano Allevatori Agapornis, in collaboration with the World Budgerigar Organisation and the Federazione Ornicoltori Italiani.

Show Hospitality

I am pleased to inform you that the event’s Operations Committee has decided to offer all WBO delegates dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as lunch on Saturday.

We shall stay inside the show venue and enjoy typical Italian dishes prepared on the spot by SOR staff. These will be fun, social moments, and we hope you will enjoy taking part.

The organising committee has also made a very generous offer to all WBO delegates. If they bring at least 50 birds to the show, budgerigars and lovebirds combined, the Committee will also cover two nights’ accommodation free of charge.

The WBO Executive Committee, on behalf of all WBO delegates, would like to extend our special thanks and gratitude to our Italian friends for their great generosity in their offer of meals and hotel accommodation.

Details of the show classification and regulations, as well as the hotels, are available on the WBO website in the “WBO Meetings” file.

Agenda, Minutes and Gould Award

The agenda of the meeting and last year’s minutes have been attached for your information. Please ensure that you bring both with you to the meeting.

The Gould Award nomination has also been attached.

Information Sheet and 2026 Annual Fee

Further to my previous communication of 15th April, very few member countries have completed the attached Information Sheet and paid their annual fee for 2026.

Please assist me in keeping your society records correct by completing the form. You can pay the annual fee either by bank transfer, PayPal, or, if you are attending the meeting, by paying me at the meeting.

Attendance and WBO Rosettes

To save on postage costs, I can bring the WBO rosettes for your organisation to the meeting. I would be grateful if you could inform me in advance if you are attending the meeting or event.

I also need to know whether your show will have classes for Colour Budgerigars.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 12th June.

2026 Agenda Notes

Note 1 – Item 5: Minutes

Delegates are asked to report feedback from their organisations regarding any items or recommendations made at the 2025 WBO meeting.

Please bring your copy of the Minutes, circulated on 13th August 2025 and attached with this agenda again, with you to the meeting.

Note 2 – Item 6: Gould Award

There was only one nomination received by 27th December 2025 for Ali Bouresli, Kuwait. As agreed with the new voting procedure, the biographical notes of the candidate are enclosed with the agenda papers and voting will be conducted at the meeting by delegates present, with one society receiving one vote.

Nominations for the 2027 award need to be sent to the Secretary by 31st December 2026 at the very latest, on the nominated society’s official headed paper, with biographical notes of not more than 200 words.

Note 3 – Item 7: Colour Standards

There are two items to consider under this heading.

Pictorial Ideal for the Colour Budgerigar: The Executive Committee is hoping to provide a computer-generated version of this Ideal for discussion.

Any society can send their thoughts on this item if they are not attending the meeting.

Note 4 – Item 8: Accounts and Subscriptions

Delegates are asked to approve the audited accounts for 2025, which will be sent to delegates soon. Please bring your copy with you.

The Secretary/Treasurer will update delegates on the current financial situation at the meeting.

The WBO Executive Committee is recommending that subscription rates for the year 2027/2028 remain the same as for 2026, as they were only increased recently.

Number of Members Annual Fee / Vote
5000 or above £410 / 10
3000 to 4999 £330 / 8
1000 to 2999 £210 / 6
500 to 999 £115 / 4
Less than 500 £50 / 2

Note 5 – Item 9: Secretary’s Report

Correspondence: The Secretary requests that correspondence sent by him receives prompt replies, as many Member Organisations have not yet sent back their Information Sheet or paid their affiliation fee for this year.

Only paid-up members, which can be paid on the day, can attend the meeting.

Membership: The Secretary will update the Council on the current membership situation and new members.

Note 6 – Item 10: Societies’ Proposals

A further discussion will be held on Hungary’s proposal regarding an education and certification system by the WBO Executive Committee.

Note 7 – Item 11: Delegates Update

The Secretary requests that delegates update the WBO General Council on any important items relating to their country.

The Secretary would be grateful if delegates could provide their written update either at the meeting or by email to ensure the accuracy of their reports.

Note 8 – Item 12: Secretary

The three-year term of office of the current Secretary ends on 31st March 2027. Under the Constitution, nominations for this position should be submitted in writing to the Secretary by 31st December 2026. If there is more than one candidate and no meeting is scheduled before 31st March 2027, a postal ballot can be held.

Note 9 – Item 13: Future Meetings

It would be helpful to the Secretary if he were made aware, before the meeting commences, of any organisation wishing to host future WBO meetings and dates.

The WBO is in a good position, with meetings for the next two years already notified in the past and accepted, with the UAE, Dubai in November 2027, and Portugal in July 2028. It is hoped that details of place and date for future meetings can be supplied at this coming meeting.

As agreed before, the WBO World Championship in 2026 will be held in Italy on 13th and 14th June, in Dubai on 6th and 7th November 2027, and in Portugal on 8th and 9th July 2028.

Further invitations will be discussed at the meeting.
