Dear Fanciers,
The few months leading up to this Gazette had been, let’s say, “not so exciting from the laptop of the ANBC Secretary.” However, things started to warm up after a number of emails and phone conversations with Zones asking questions such as, “What do you think about this motion?” or “How should we approach this task?”
With the ANBC General Meeting approaching quickly, I thought, here we go — I’m going to be flushed with motions! Sure enough, we received six new motions over the couple of days leading into the meeting.
Three motions were received from NQBZ Inc through their Secretary, with further motions received from BNSW and WABC, all submitted through the appropriate Zone Secretaries. Correct procedures followed — so that’s a tick in the box!
Once received, as you would all probably know, I circulate the motions to the Zone Secretaries and Delegates to commence the process. One of the tasks for the Secretary is to categorise the motions and identify whether they are motions of Major Significance or more straightforward motions. Two of the NQBZ Inc motions were identified as being of Major Significance, and this certainly put a different curve on things.
For those who aren’t aware of the process, if a Major Significance motion is tabled at the General Meeting, seconded by another Zone and, once discussion has been exhausted, proceeds to a vote, the outcome becomes particularly important. If the motion is successful, it is recorded and processed accordingly.
However, if the motion is unsuccessful and does not achieve the required 75% majority, the motion cannot be tabled again or brought forward for consideration by the ANBC for five years.
You can therefore see why the wording and reasoning behind these motions are important, and why Zones need to give them proper consideration before making their decision. The strongest and most compelling reasons both for and against a motion should be presented so that Delegates can make an informed decision.
So, we had two Major Significance motions out of the six, with the remaining motions also being important, but not carrying the same significance as the two NQBZ Inc motions. The motions were circulated to the Zones for distribution to their members — I’m hoping! — and were then brought forward to the ANBC General Meeting for consideration.
There was a change to the WABC motion, and following consultation between the ANBC and the WABC Secretary, the motion was withdrawn. All good on the western front with that one! That left five motions on the table for the 10 August ANBC General Meeting.
With the short period between receiving the motions and the General Meeting, the ANBC Executive decided that the motions would be treated as discussion points at the August meeting. This would allow the matters to be discussed and then circulated again to the Zones for further consideration, input and response prior to the next ANBC General Meeting in October 2026.
All sounds good and moving forward — but the SQBBA Motion regarding the formation of the Events Management Group (EMG) was highlighted as something that needed to move forward.
It was therefore agreed that a cut-off date for Zone responses and voting would be established, with the SQBBA EMG Motion circulated to the Zones for consideration and a response required by 31 August 2026.
So, take a breath… things are starting to clear with the motions, cut-off dates and responses!
The discussion at the August meeting regarding the various motions, including the Major Significance matters, was conducted very professionally by the Zone Delegates. Credit where credit is due — the Delegates approached the discussions in the manner expected of them, and that is exactly how these matters should be handled.
So now we wait and see the outcomes through your Zone Delegates and, of course, the ANBC Meeting Minutes.
A few other matters from the Secretary’s Desk
2027 Ring Orders are flowing in nicely and on time. Well done to all the Zone Ring Registrars — it certainly makes the Secretary’s job a little easier when everything arrives when it should!
The new three-year Coditech ring contract has also been tabled. There are no changes to the current pricing, although, as is normal in these contracts, any significant movement in the exchange rate will be taken into consideration.
The BNSW National Committee is also moving along positively, with the jigsaw puzzle pieces continuing to drop into place. The current Working Group is providing valuable guidance and assistance as the various aspects of the 2027 National come together.
And finally, a big thank you to the Zone contacts for getting their Gazette articles in on time… JUST! I’m smiling… so all good! 😂 As for the motions, I’m not going to list them all again in this article. I believe the Zones should be circulating the relevant information to their members and, by now, you should have had the opportunity to consider the matters through your respective Zone.
So, we wait and see what comes from the discussions and Zone responses.
