Welcome to your Monthly Edition of the ANBC Gazette
Dear Fanciers,
Each month, as I sit down to prepare this editorial for the ANBC Gazette, I often find myself getting up and revisiting it several times before I’m satisfied. More often than not, this process comes with a few sleepless nights, running through a mental checklist: Did I send that email? Have I responded to that request about a lost budgerigar handed in to a vet? Have all invoices been issued and accounts paid? These are the thoughts that tend to linger before I can finally settle in for a reasonable night’s sleep, or at least what I can call a reasonable night’s sleep.
As we approach the end of the ANBC financial year on 31st March, it is important that all accounts are finalised, with the books and bank statements balanced and ready for audit in preparation for the AGM in June.
Alongside this are the many ongoing logistical tasks—supplier requests, coordination of carers, stewards, and commentary team polo shirts—all requiring careful checking of sizes. I must admit, this can be quite amusing at times, as perceived sizes and reality don’t always align—more often than not, an XL becomes a 2XL or even larger!(might be a good idea to check out the mirror or even better ask the wife or partner to give a realistic answer).
Orders for essential National requirements—such as seed for the carers’ room, drinkers, lanyards, sponsors bags on the registration table and other basic supplies—must be organised well in advance to ensure smooth delivery at the venue. Fortunately, I am supported by a well-organised and reliable team who consistently deliver when it matters most.
ANBC Matters
From an ANBC perspective, the welfare component of our hobby continues to grow in importance and the ANBC regards this the most crucial subject of our standing in the hobby.
The BCSA has submitted two proposed wording adjustments relating to Colour and Standards within our Standard. These will be discussed and voted on at the upcoming ANBC Delegates Meeting in April. One motion pertains to the Yellowface Blue series on page 23 of the Standard, while the other proposes additional commentary relating to the pictorials.
Due to the current vacancy of the Colour and Standards Coordinator position, I have requested that all correspondence regarding this area be forwarded through your Zone Colour and Standards representatives to the ANBC Secretary. To date, I have received responses regarding the Melanistic Spangle, which is encouraging—please keep them coming.
A reminder that Expressions of Interest for the position of Colour and Standards Coordinator close on 30th April 2026, with the successful appointment to be announced at the ANBC AGM in June.
Zone & Club Updates
On the home front, recent changes within BCV have been a significant talking point. Following the Council elections, Malcolm Randall has been elected as President of BCV. The ANBC wishes Malcolm all the best in his new role with the BCV. At present, Malcolm is also serving as the BCV Delegate to the ANBC, and I will keep members informed as further positions within BCV are finalised.
I would like to acknowledge and thank outgoing President Peter Thurn and Secretary Ray Slade for their dedication and service. Ray made the decision to step down shortly after the election. Both gentlemen have also stood down from the BCV Council, to take break and enjoy family and the hobby. Peter will continue his valuable contribution as Chairperson of the ANBC Working Group.
Supporters Polo Shirts
Supporters Polo Shirt orders have now officially closed with the release of this Gazette. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee delivery beyond this date.
2026 National Championships Update
Reports from the SQBBA National Committee indicate that preparations are progressing steadily. The Sharks Mantra accommodation allocated for the Nationals is now fully booked, which is an excellent sign of strong attendance.
However, there are still many accommodation options available throughout the northern Gold Coast and surrounding areas for those yet to book.
This level of interest is a strong indication that this year’s National Championships are shaping up to be a highly successful event, with excellent registration numbers and accommodation demand.
Important Reminder to Zones
All Zones are reminded to ensure strict adherence to ANBC By-Laws regarding exhibition requirements. Please ensure: Show Rules By Law 1 is bought to the knowledge of the Selectors, carers etc of Zone Teams.
Diligence in this area is essential to maintaining the integrity of the National competition.
