Welcome to your Monthly Edition of the ANBC Gazette
Dear Fanciers,
I would like to start with a big thank you for the response to the new format of the Gazette. It has been received with open arms and appreciation from the majority of our readers, which is very pleasing and confirms that we are moving in the right direction with our communication.
The Australian National Budgerigar Council Delegates met on 9th February, and I can say it was a meeting that produced constructive discussion and positive outcomes. The ANBC Executive submitted a discussion paper regarding the annual distribution of ANBC rings and how the process could be streamlined and made easier for members to understand. The original wording in ANBC By-Law 7(a) Closed Leg Rings stated:
“Rings can be pre-packaged for distribution from 5th December and then posted on 15th December to reach members as close to January 1st as is possible.”
After thorough discussion, the Delegates agreed to amend By-Law 7(a). The new wording will read:
“Rings issued for the 1st January each year may not be posted or distributed to members prior to 15th December.”
I sought confirmation from the Delegates that they were satisfied with the amendment, and the decision was unanimous. The amendment will now be listed on the ANBC website, and all Zone Ring Registrars will be formally notified. In addition, the responsibilities of Zone Ring Registrars will be further refined, particularly in relation to checking and reporting procedures when rings are received from the supplier and before distribution to Club Registrars and breeders.
There was also regular and productive discussion regarding the expanding responsibilities of the ANBC in relation to future Nationals, sponsorship, and long-term planning. The working group continues to move forward in developing a positive and sustainable future for the ANBC and the National Championships, regardless of which Zone hosts the event.
Planning for the 2026 National Championship is progressing well. The South Queensland Budgerigar Breeders Association Gold Coast Trill™ Expert National continues to take shape, with the SQBBA receiving sponsorship funding from both ANBC and Mars Birdcare. Mars Birdcare has again shown great generosity through their sponsorship of the scoreboard and officiating judges’ shirts, helping to provide the host Zone with a solid financial foundation for the event.
The venue has recently been inspected by the SQBBA organising committee to ensure every detail is in place, and preparations continue to progress well. Further information can be obtained directly through the SQBBA Committee.
